Top 5 Scholarships to Study Nursing in Canada for Nigerian Students

Studying Nursing in Canada

Let’s be frank! Nursing is a top ten course in any country, and speaking even more honestly, it’s certainly up there in professional importance. It’s a good thing when someone studies nursing. It’s even better when someone does it by going abroad through a scholarship program. So, in this article, we’ll tell you if there are full scholarships to study abroad for nursing, or anyone at all.

The University of Waterloo Scholarship

For undergraduate or postgraduate studies, the University of Waterloo put up to $10,000 for grabs in scholarships for international students for the 2025-2026 academic session. This public research relies on academic merit in awarding either the David Johnston–Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards, or the International Master’s Award of Excellence to the students. The scholarship is open to students of all nationalities, but make sure you have a 75% or at least a 70% in your undergrad—very important—and of course, English proficiency is needed. You must also have a Canadian study permit and must submit your applications before April 15, July 15, or November 15.

George Brown College Scholarship

Are you a university graduate looking to push the boundaries of your educational experience? As good study abroad consultants, we say, give the George Brown College scholarship a shot. This one is only open for postgraduate studies though, and is available so long as it’s for a two-year course. You can apply for courses like Practical Nursing and the RPN Bridge to BScN, especially as it is open to every nationality including Nigeria, and you must have a CGPA totalling 3.0 or more. You must also be active community-wise, in the college, or outside it. Getting a degree here comes in two sessions, with two semesters each.

University of Calgary International Entrance Scholarship

This is certainly one of the top 5 scholarships to study abroad in Canada for International Students 2024/2025. The student is offered a renewable scholarship that could reach $20,000. A very generous award, the awarders don’t require so much. Firstly, you must be an undergraduate to be able to apply in your first year. Then, you must ace the school’s English proficiency test to assert that you are eligible for the scholarship award. To renew in the second, third, or fourth years, the student must get at least a 2.60 GPA over the 24-unit fall and winter semesters. It’s not clear whether this is a full scholarship to study abroad, but the international applicant is also required to pay school fees and apply before December 1. This scholarship is strictly for students who are not permanent residents of/or citizens of Canada.

Carleton University Entrance Scholarship

The Carleton University scholarship system awarded $31 million in scholarships and bursaries to undergraduate students last year. If you don’t get anything from that, at least know your chances of securing a renewable scholarship award in Carleton are inflated. However, you have to be admitted with an average admission score of 80% for automatic consideration and also pass a language proficiency test. This entrance scholarship is renewable provided you get an annual GPA of 10.0. Carleton University Entrance Scholarship is only open for the fall semester. So you’ll want to hurry up and beat the June 15 deadline. This scholarship ranges from $1,000 to $4,000. Depending on your choice of application, you can choose this as a full scholarship to study abroad or a partial one.

University of Victoria Endurance Scholarship

To get this scholarship, you must first be admitted into the school. This international scholarship option varies depending on the sponsor and type of scholarship. Meaning, it could be a full abroad scholarship or not. A major criterion for getting the scholarship is to provide an interim or final transcript to the school authority. If you fall into the scholarship criteria, you’ll automatically be recommended for a scholarship to the Student Awards & Financial Aid by Undergraduate Admissions. There is a deadline of March 15, so make sure to send it in before then.
